Did you know, 16 women die every single day throughout Uganda due to preventable causes related to pregnancy and birth?
Are you familiar with the Shanti Uganda Society?
Their aim is to improve infant and maternal health, and provide safe women-centered care to support the well-being of birthing mothers and women living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. Their staff of midwives, nursing assistant, traditional birth attendant, and onsite laboratory technician provide a full range of perinatal services to their clients in Uganada, both before and after birth. These not only include antenatal and postnatal check ups, but STI testing for both mothers and fathers, nutritional workshops, prenatal yoga classes, breastfeeding support, and immunization appointments. Additionally, Shanti Uganda offers doula care during births, access to emergency transport should the need arise, and a comprehensive family planning program. Pretty cool huh?
Here are 5 more reasons why we support Shanti Uganda and why you should too:
They stand up for maternal health by putting women first!
Their Board of Directors and Staff Members are comprised mostly of women!
They firmly believe that a safe, respectful and comfortable birthing experience is a right for every woman!
They understand the importance of and value the roles of Midwives, Birthing Assistants and Traditional Birth Attendants!
They facilitate over 200 births every year in at their Birth House. And, with their efforts to date, their maternal mortality rate remains zero.
