We all want to live a life of ease, peace and freedom. And yes, we absolutely 100% deserve it.
However, we all know that story about how that thing called life ‘conveniently’ wedges itself into our routines, and our goals which once were at arms reach, seem to be off disappearing into the distance. Sounds familiar right? This is where intention comes in, and intention goes a long way. Setting intentions are simple ways that we can make big changes in our lives. Sometimes, intention will have us springing from our beds and into the studio for a class. But sometimes intention doesn’t get us so far. And that’s totally okay. It’s important to remember that we’re human, to go easy on ourselves, and to give ourselves the space to feel where we are , when we’re there.
Here are some tips for setting intention and creating positive influence in your life, from a Pilates perspective.
- Breathe in bed. Pilates uses the breath to send oxygen to engaged muscles and our core. But do we need to be in the studio, or on a yoga mat with all our gear to be able to do it? Nope! Start by taking a few deep breathes in your bed when you wake up. You get to be warm, comfy and best of all, you don’t have to leave your favourite cuddling creature in order to do it. Plus, you’ll be pleased that you took a few moments to check in with yourself and how you’re feeling.
- Move, even just a little bit! It can be a shake, twirl, jump, wiggle, whatever! Even make it silly if you can. Moving your body even the slightest bit, allows you to release stagnant energy from your body and mind. Plus, you might even get a chuckle and smile out of it, which is a total win in our books. This is where we can come in to help!
- Acknowledge the little victories. We get stuck sometimes in life, but every little step counts. In Pilates, when we finally achieve to release the muscles that we carry the most tension in, it feels so good. But rewards like this need not apply just to Pilates. In what areas of your life have you achieved those milestones you’ve been working towards? It can be however big or small you like, such as spending more time in the outdoors or checking your emails less frequently. Remember to focus on all the amazing qualities that you already have, not what on what you don’t. It doesn’t have to be something over the top, but something that feels sincere and easy to digest.
