A quick Friday post to give you 5 fun facts about Halloween that not many people know:

 

  1. Halloween is thought to have been around for over 6,000 years, originating around 4000 B.C in Ireland.
  2. Instead of pumpkins, the first Jack O’Lanterns were actually made from turnips.
  3. The act of trick-or-treating has developed from an ancient Celtic tradition which was used to placate spirits by putting out food and treats.  The spirits were thought to roam free at Samhain, the festival that celebrated the end of the Celtic calendar year.
  4. According to an old superstition, if a person wears their clothes inside out and walks backwards on Halloween, they will see a witch at midnight.
  5. The mask worn by Michael Myers in the movie Halloween (1978) was a William Shatner Star Trek mask.
