Is it easy to find work as a STOTT instructor?

We often get asked by our students if finding work comes easily once they’ve completed a course. The answer is yes, but the amount of work depends on a few factors. Yes, STOTT Pilates is an internationally recognized, and much sought-after, reputable method of Pilates that is practiced all over the world. As a STOTT instructor, you can find work and establish yourself anywhere in the world! But where can you work? Because the STOTT method of Pilates is focused on rehabilitation (more so than fitness) our students have been able to find work in a clinical setting, working out of Physiotherapy offices all over the city, in addition to all the fitness studios that Vancouver has to offer! Are you wondering what level of training would land you such teaching jobs? Keep reading below.

Why should I complete a full Level 1 training?

Completing a full Level 1 training -Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels- is the best career move you can make. Not only will it shape you into a more versatile, knowledgeable and well-rounded instructor, but it will open up your job pool immensely. An instructor with a Mat or Reformer training could easily find work in a community fitness centre or gym. But having a full training under your belt, including all the apparatus, means you’ll also be able to work in physiotherapy clinics and fully equipped studios, such as ours. What kind of pay rates should you expect? Find the answer further below.

What are the pay rates for STOTT instructors?

Most community fitness centres and big gym studios offer a standard basic pay rate of $15-$30 a class, depending on the size of the class and the level of complexity. Fully equipped Pilates studios, like ours, and boutique fitness centres will offer between $25-$40 a class, depending on your level of certification. Essentially, across all professional platforms, we commonly find that the higher the level of training is, the higher your pay rate will be! So now what? You’ve done your full training and you’re ready to start teaching. The next step is to obtaining your certification. Find out why that’s important below!

Why should I become a certified STOTT instructor?

If you are completing, or thinking about completing a STOTT course, you should definitely consider obtaining your certification afterwards. Some students like to wait until completing all 5 courses before doing their exams. Indeed, this is the most cost effective way of obtaining your certification, but some students also like to do their exams in parts. We strongly encourage all students, regardless of their level of training, to obtain their certification within 6 months of completing their last course while it’s all still very fresh in the mind. Doing your exam and obtaining your certification means you will earn the right to call yourself a STOTT instructor. You will also have an easier time obtaining insurance and you will be hireable on the spot! You will also be added to STOTT’s website so that clients and future employers are able to locate you anywhere in the world, bringing more opportunities your way!
